What the ART is
The Anotação de Responsabilidade Técnica (Technical Responsibility Record) was established by Law No. 6,496/1977 and is registered with CREA, the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy. For each contract for engineering works or services, it identifies the professional who is technically responsible and the scope of the work.
Why it matters to the client
- It identifies the qualified professional responsible for the service
- It defines the technical scope that has been taken on
- It serves as a reference during inspections and whenever proof is required
What to check before work starts
- Whether an ART has been registered for the contracted service (design, execution, inspection, management)
- Whether the description in the ART matches the scope of the contract
- Whether the professional has an active CREA registration
Good practice
Keep the ART together with the contract and the project documentation. If the scope changes significantly, talk to the technically responsible professional about whether the record needs to be supplemented.
